Godalming CC Ladies XI visited Thoiry CC in France over the weekend to play two 20Twenty games against a team that included the French Ladies XI captain and a mixture of nationalities.
Playing in bright sunshine in the grounds of the Chateau de Thoiry with the sound of an orchestra in the distance, the occasional roar from lions in the Wildlife Park, watched by a sleepy red panda and the occasional glimpse of the ginger squirrel, the Godalming team were not humbled by the more experienced French opposition. Losing the second game by only a few runs with Louise Tunbridge top scoring for Godalming with 39 not out, following an ever improving bowling attack where Carolyn McKenzie and Abi Churaman were particularly effective in restricting the home side to 127.
The matches were played in tremendous spirit with the French national coach providing coaching advice as the games progressed.
The French tour rounded off the first full season for the GCC Ladies which has seen them improving with each match and practice session. They hope to enter a league next year to play more competitive matches with the friendly games already arranged.
