Best Junior Cricketer. Being presented with the Burchell Cup was someone who topped his age group batting averages, contributed with the ball & took most catches. He also played regular senior cricket which is something we want to see from more of our Juniors: George Dukes
Secondly the Junior Cup for all round contribution. A real stand out this year, playing age group cricket, 1st team cricket, Sunday cricket, helping with coaching as well as being a huge help to John with the groundwork and for generally being a fixture at the club again this summer: Junior Cup winner was another George: George Stow
For their contribution to our non league matches. A great personality on and off the field. For his 12 wickets and for wearing the white coat in between all of that: John Allen
For our third XI there are two awards. Both were difficult to decide upon this year with availability challenges meaning players from all XIs and even other clubs were called upon to feature.
Bowling award we looked long and hard at, but decided it had to go to the person who topped the bowling averages by some way which ever way you looked at them: Simon Steel
The Batting award this year went to the club player that has the highest batting average of all players - at least according to the matches recorded on Play-Cricket - and we look forward to his schooling finishing so he can play more Saturdays: Macgregor Cox
For the second XI this season was tough and performances do not litter the scoresheets. Awards though are clearer cut with the 'evergreens' - as our friendly journo Richard Spiller would say - for a second year holding things together and taking the spoils.
Bowler of the Year. Very little splits the stats of the two contenders - they were the only bowlers to take more than 20 wickets, both took a 6-for - but edging out in front by a nose on strike rate: Simon Steel
Batsman of the Year. The only 2nd XI player to score more than 200 runs - crucial runs too often. The award for a second year running goes to one of our opening bowlers! Richard Linegar
And the first XI.
Bowler of the Year. Another oldie but goodie takes this one and again the only player in the squad to take more than 20 wickets this season. John Milner
Batsman of the Year. Being captain can often detract from other departments of your game but Harri managed to compartmentalise the two and was the only Batsman in the club to exceed 500 league runs this year and despite the team's precarious position in the league individually actually finished in the top 5 in the league stats: Harri Mayne.
Player of the Year helped bring down the average age of our recipients significantly ;) He quietly (well most of the time) got on with his job behind the stumps and took 9 league wickets with the gloves, 15 in total. He was probably denied a few others, but James' frantic pointing at the line and agonised cry of 'and he's *still* out Ump' didn't cut any ice with the men in white coats but did cause significant merriment to the rest of the team. He also scored his maiden 1st XI league 50 the first weekend out and backed that up with another later in the season. James Clarke.
This year we are created a new award for our Ladies XI. We asked all the Ladies to vote on their Performer of the year. Needless to say no-one voted for themselves (take note men…) but there was no clear winner from the initial round so a re-count and a deciding vote was needed. As a result Lucy Ross-Mackenzie is our recipient this year.
The Raynsford Salver is the committee award. There are always a number of regular contenders for this one who go that extra mile. Nick for his relentless efforts for the club as a whole and to friendly cricket in particular. Simon for continuing with various roles when he'd really like someone to help out. Clive for supporting in so many roles this year. Sonia for finding creative ways to feed us on a budget. Dawn for the events and smiles she brings to the club as well as working with the Ladies XI we've just talked about. New volunteers are also providing new impetus - Gana Bhatt and James Fargus this year to name but two and they make a huge difference and encourages the rest of us to keep going. This year though, we recognised another person that quietly gets on with his role and for some of you, paths possibly don't even cross. It's been a personally tough few years for him and his family as most of you will know and yet he's still found the time and passion to carry on coaching and helping us drive forward the Junior section. There are also changes afoot to how we run and manage our Juniors from 2013 but for his support and impact so far: Stephen Wahl
The Maskell Trophy recognizes efforts on or off the field. Again a number of worthy contenders and George Stow, Jon Garman and Dawn Dukes were all nominated. The award this year though, again is being given to recognise a part of the club that many of you may be unware of. This year we kicked off a little Saturday morning coaching effort for an U7 age group. All very experimental for sure. It has to be said we also got great support from most of the parents in this age group which made the whole thing fly. From our side though Clive Dawson helped to kick start things with me, Alison Dawson helping out along the way. But we needed a coach. The progress for our merry band of kids, who really didn't know how to hold a bat when we first met, culminated in match play by the end of 12 weeks! So for agreeing to take on the lead coach role, be at the club every Sat morning to drive this forward, we presented the award to: Dominic Dawson
Well done to all our 2012 award winners.
