Thames Ditton 2s v Godalming 2s, Sat. 27 May

Next up for the Doctors were 'Tem Dit - bearhh team in league yeh?', at one of the favourite grounds of our erstwhile No. 1 supporter David Atkinson who sadly passed away in 2016. David's Nostradamus-like soundbites remained spot on: they were top of the league with 3 from 3.

Captain Milner opted to bowl and Haine kept the young batsmen on point, swanging the Fuller's rosy braeburn into Pebble's keeping gloves with the wind. All fielders' eyebrows were raised, like the Saturday night line-up at the women's loos at any Essex wine bar, when Pammy Anderson was asked to open from the Kingston end. Tomfoolery from Milner or a bold masterstroke, cogniscant of the early morning thunderstorm? Two deliveries per over started poppin' chin-height like homemade corn on an angry man's raging stove. Pemberton went first (1), caught Haine, then Farley (2) at slip, typically one-handed by Horne. 10-2. The teacher celebrates a wicket with glorious abandon and was soon at it again, leaping skywards like a leprechaun on amphetamines snaring Robinson (LBW 3) and Steyn (b. 6). No, certainly not that one. Ditton, scared like a kitten, and in all sorts of early trouble, were 32 - 4. Before we knew it, Stephen caught and bowled Ben Park, TD's best batsman, for 20, so Viv had his baggy. Unplayable on this wicket: 9.0 - 4 - 13 - 5.

Frojo entered the fray and picked up two quick wickets (TD 77-7) while Carsten, Milner and one half of The Somerset Publicans - Dom Coakley - each added a wicket. The revelation was the astounding catching. Adam Cook one handed at deep gully, Coakley down near the turf at long-on and Jonty Johnson's dive forward while running in from the boundary. Super work by GCC to restrict the chart toppers, who rallied to 107 a.o. off 40.5.

Understandably, Anderson's tail feathers were erect, and cocked vertically like the no.1 swiped peacock on Plumâge, the ornithological equivalent of Tinder. His blitzkrieg approach reaped 21 off 13 while Sewell snuck and dabbed to 10. With ever tighter bowling, including Milner trapped LBW by C̶o̶o̶k̶ Senthilkumar for a Donald, and Francis for 2, the pressure built. The chase was certainly looking shaky at 42 - 4. Onto the chain stepped a determined Dom Coakley and focused Matthew Sopp. In sunshine and wind, they defended, played straight and unlike the preceding batsmen used their acumen to realise the run rate was only around 1.9. Boundaries started to appear and the total edged closer to the target. With Coaks on 31 and the Sopp Unit on 37 (see photo), Godalming claimed an excellent victory.

MINGERS 108; 6 WKT VICTORY OFF 27.1. Scorecard below.
